[*Insert Title Here*] - It's too early on a Monday

I will admit that this Monday is in distinct contrast to last Monday. Whereas last Monday I was surfing on the wonders of an endorphin high this Monday I have been slapped by the reality of a Monday morning caffeine addiction!

As I sit here glazed, chugging sipping my cup of life providing nectar I am wondering firstly where the weekend went and secondly what is different to last weekend.

In truth the answer is way too easy and obvious! Too little sleep (late nights) and way too little exercise.

Life totally got in the way this weekend compared to last (in order to protect the innocent I will not go into the ways in which life got complicated). I know that where there is a will there is a way and if I had really tried I could have gotten my workouts in. I know and I can honestly say that I have the guilt complex to go along with that. I have bottled up the guilt and will be expending the issues on the stairs tonight! Despite being a miserable day of the week the good thing about Mondays in my training diary is that it marks the start of a fresh week and therefore a fresh chance at redemption.

To coin a phrase from my golf buddies, that used to tolerate my shocking attempts at the game, “forget the last shot, nothing matters except the next shot!” After which I would insert several expletives and stomp off into the undergrowth in search of yet another errant shot…..

I do think that there is a lesson in that. From my perspective I have come to the conclusion that despite all of its faults Monday in my training diary marks a fresh week and fresh chance at my targets and goals for the week. I need to accept what I cannot change and move forward positive in the mindset of what I can impact and improve upon! [Damn that should go on a poster]!

Damn it....beaten to it again!
On a more exciting theme…..

My mate crushed his first Half Marathon with a 1:56!!! Awesome effort!

Another colleague is training for her first marathon and smashed a 35km run on the weekend. Impressive in its own right but she has just had to undergo a complete rebuild of her running technique and insert orthopaedics into her shoes. A testament to mental strength and determination!

The weather is improving and as such early morning sessions will be coming back to being a reality…..just as well because…..wait for it……wait for it……

I signed up for my little old tri series!!! Woo hoo! December 14th is the first race! Here’s to training and racing again! Very excited!

I have 4 months until my first race. A pursuit (750m swim / 20km ride / 5km run). I have between 9 – 13kgs to lose (20 – 30lbs) to get to my perceived racing weight and a fair amount of fitness and endurance to regain. The training plan will be updated with a lot more determination and diligence from now onwards! I just need to heed my own words above and focus on what I can influence. I am looking forward to the training, the feeling of being fit again and deep down of getting to play around in excel building and tweaking and updating my training schedule J

Thanks for reading and happy training and positive thinking!
